WhatsApp may soon allow sharing of all file types on iOS, Android, Windows Phone
WhatsApp may soon allow users to share all types of files via its service. According to WABetaInfo,
the messaging service is reportedly rolling out a new feature for its
apps on iOS, Android and Windows Phone that allows users to share all
types of files. However, the report notes that the maximum size of the
files allowed to be shared is 128MB for iOS, 100MB for Android, and 64MB
on the web. But the report notes that this might change in the future.
In other WhatsApp related news, it was reported today
that the service is in talks with the State Bank of India (SBI) and the
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) as well as other
institutions to launch a peer-to-peer payments system. This system will
reportedly be powered by the Indian government's Unified Payments Interface
(UPI). As per reports, WhatsApp will be used to identify the recipient,
while UPI will allow the funds to be settled between the two parties.
However, if the messaging service does integrate UPI, it won’t be the
first to do so. A few days ago, Hike launched its own mobile payments
system called Hike Wallet. The service is also integrated with UPI and
allows users to transfer money to a recipient's bank account.
Recently we wrote a post that explained how to share any files in WhatsApp for iOS, downloading an application called Document . It was necessary to import the file in Document 6 that you wanted to share in WhatsApp, but since today things are going to change.
It was a little over a year ago that WhatsApp introduced documents in WhatsApp, allowing to share these file types only: csv, doc, docx, pdf, ppt, pptx, rtf, txt, xls, xlsx and similar.Since today, WhatsApp is rolling out for iOS, Android, Windows Phone users the possibility to share all file types, allowing you to natively share all archives and media files: it means you will be also able to share photos and videos without be compressed.Actually the max size allowed is still 128MB for iOS and 100MB for Android (that makes no-compressed videos very difficult to share) but it may be easily changed in future. You may receive the activation at any time, but note that it’s really slow, because WhatsApp is experimenting this feature for some users only, at the moment. So, you can understand that you have to be very lucky to be one of the first users. If the feature is enabled for you, you will be able to share all file types also using WhatsApp Web/Desktop (max 64MB).
